Nail Care: The Need for Buffering

Nail Care

Most of us are probably familiar with the old adage that ‘the eyes are the windows to the soul’, but why stop with the eyes? Similarly, some claim that ‘nails are mirrors that reflect our health’, in that the condition and perception of a person’s nails could be used to make a judgement on their health, hygiene, and even emotional well-being.

Nails have a number of functional purposes including, but not limited to:

  1. Protection and support for the fingers – not only do they provide protection to the softer finger tissue below, but also aid with stability and dexterity in movement, allowing us to complete tasks such as playing instruments, typing, and general day-to-day tasks that we take for granted.
  2. Hygiene – regular, and proper care of nails helps with better hygiene. By maintaining them regularly, we can stave off infections and illness by removing dirt, germs, and bacteria.
  3. Indicator of general health – subtle changes in the shape of nails, their colour, or even sometimes their texture can suggest undiagnosed or unknown health issues, diseases or bodily deficiencies. Though this knowledge may be useful for us, it is not something any of us would like clear for others to see.

Nails are about more than just functionality though. They can represent so much more about an individual, namely in terms of fashion, self-confidence, and self-care.

Healthy, well-presented nails exude a sense of elegance and professionalism which, in turn, bring an air of self-confidence, positive self-esteem, and a general feeling of well-being – traits that those around us can sense.

All this being said, what can we do to take good and proper care of our nails to achieve these positives? Well, in addition to some of the more clear and obvious suggestions such as:

  • Keep them clean, and trimmed
  • Eat a healthy diet
  • Keep them moisturized

It is also advised to practice nail buffering – a process undertaken to smooth the surface, increase the shine, and improve the overall appearance of nails.

Before listing some of the advantages of nail buffering, it is essential to note that effective buffering can only be guaranteed with the use of effective nail buffer tools.

General advantages of nail buffering include:

  • Smoother nails – buffering helps smooth out any imperfections in the surface texture of nails, creating a more polished and sophisticated look.
  • Better shine – nail buffering can promote better blood flow to the area below the nail, giving off a look that can seem similar to nail polish.
  • Better nail health – buffering helps with general cleaning, aiding with the removal of dirt and stains, reducing any risk of infections. In addition, by smoothing the nails, the risk of snagging is reduced.
  • Relaxing self-care – we all have that activity that’s therapeutic. For some, it’s washing the dishes; it may be ironing clothes; it could be a massage. For many, it can be as simple an activity as nail buffering that can lower our stress levels and release much appreciated endorphins.

Conclusion

Correct, and regular, nail care is essential to positive physical and mental health, but maximum effect can only be achieved with correct, high-quality tools. Find the right tools for you and don’t wait to start feeling the holistic benefits to you and your life.
